YOUTH ORCHESTRA, CYCNY is presenting the " 2003 Christmas Concert" on Saturday, December 20, 8PM at Marie Curie Middle School Auditorium, located at 46-35 Oceania Street in Bayside, Queens. It is open to the public and the admission is free. This is the traditional free holiday concert offered by YOUTH ORCHESTRA, CYCNY to the Queens community since 1999. More than 50 young musicians age 10-21 will be lead by the music director Jeffrey Liang and James de la Garza is the featured trumpet soloist.

The YOUTH ORCHESTRA, CYCNY is a non-profit organization founded in 1995.

It has been under the Beacon Program sponsored by the Samuel Field YM and YWHA since 1997. This concert is made possible with funds from the Decentralization Program, a regrant program of the New York State Council on the Arts, administrated by Queens Council on the Arts.

The purpose of YOUTH ORCHESTRA, CYCNY is to serve the young music students, age 10 to 21 living in Queens, who could have the chance and experience in rehearsing and performing the orchestral music of Classical, Folk Tune, Broadway and Film, as well as being great team workers.

The activities that YOC offers are: 1 Weekly rehearsals on Saturday from1-4PM, at MS. 158 in Bayside Queens, during the school year. 2. Annual Free Holiday Concert in Queens.3. Annual Spring Concert at major concert hall. 4. Performing concerts at nursing homes, hospitals, charity occasions and community centers in Queens.

 

 

Jeff Liang, Music Director

Born and raised in Los Angeles, CA, James De La Garza now lives in New Jersey.  He received a Bachelor of Music degree in Trumpet Performance from the Indiana University School of Music while maintaining an active schedule as a freelance and studio musician in the Mid-west area.  In addition, he has worked in the Disneyland Fanfare Trumpets, Carnival Cruise Lines, and was first trumpet in the All American College Band at Disneyland.  Mr. De La Garza has also performed with the Indianapolis Symphony, the Evansville Philharmonic, the Indianapolis Chamber Orchestra, and the chamber brass ensemble, Proteus 7.  For three years he traveled the country with the National tour of the Disney Broadway musical, "Beauty and The Beast."  Mr De La Garza has been heard with such artists as Barry Manilow, Franki Valli, The Four Tops, The Temptations, The Spinners, and comedian Don Rickles to name a few.  He is currently the member of Metropolitan Brass Quintet.
